Iris Red Beans Throw

What Makes This Throw Amazing:

  • Supports a local, family owned business, Camellia Brand, and our exceptional community members at St. Michael Special School

  • Sack is made from renewable, biodegradable jute fiber, which uses less pesticides and fertilizers than other fibers like cotton.

  • Heat sealed inner product bag, safe 4oz throwing weight, 2 servings.

What This Throw Can Teach Us:

Every year tens of millions of dollars are sent abroad to purchase and import parade throws. Wouldn’t it be great if we could keep some of that business here and create jobs for those who need them? We can! Consumable throws, which are cost competitive with disposable plastic throws, promote our Louisiana food culture, support local businesses and provide work for community members and volunteers who sticker, stuff and tie the bags. These throws truly are a win, win, win!

End of Life Instructions:

Jute bags can be repurposed for other uses or composted. For best results cut into smaller scraps before composting. Plastic product bag can be recycled with alternative recycling services such as Terracycle, but should not be placed in curbside recycling bins.

Cooking Instructions:

  • Remove debris, rinse and sort 1 pound of beans.

  • In large heavy pot, cook 1 pound sliced sausage for 5 minutes.
